#PCAFStories | The Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF), in partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), concluded a three-day Collaborative Dialogue/Meeting among the National Sectoral Committee on Fisheries and Aquaculture (NSC-FA), Agricultural and Fishery Council (AFC) Sectoral Representatives, and key tuna handline stakeholders in the Bicol Region, held from April 28 to 30, 2025 in Legazpi City. The activity aimed to address the pressing challenges facing the tuna handline sector, including declining production, inadequate cold chain infrastructure, and limited alternative livelihoods. The meeting also focused on policy gaps, resource sustainability, and opportunities to enhance the sector’s competitiveness.The closing message of Mr. Rodel Tornillo, Regional Executive Director of the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Regional Field Office V, was delivered by the newly elected Chairperson of the Regional Agricultural and Fishery Council (RAFC) Bicol Region, Claudia Esmeralda Honrado. In his message, Mr. Tornillo emphasized the need for strengthened collaboration and targeted interventions to support artisanal fishers and improve fisheries governance.
