The Philippine Council for Agriculture and Fisheries (PCAF) participated in the 44th World Food Day Celebration on October 16, 2024, at the Liwasang Aurora, Quezon Memorial Circle. The event's theme, "Right to foods for a better life and a better future, leave no one behind," emphasized the importance of ensuring universal access to diverse, nutritious, affordable, and safe food. It highlighted the need for global collaboration to create sustainable and inclusive food systems that can meet the growing demands of an increasing population while protecting the environment.PCAF was represented by OIC-Administrative and Financial Management Division Chief Marissa Lo, Policy Development and Coordination Division OIC-Chief Sarah Bales, Human Resource and Development Section Chief Braulio Castro, Jr., and more than 30 PCAF staff.The celebration began with an Entrance of Colors, featuring flagbearers from each attached agency or bureau marching in a parade with their respective organizational flags. The event included several key activities:- Presentation of the 2024 Outstanding Rural Women Finalists, recognizing the contributions of women from rural areas to agriculture and food security;- Awarding of Winners of the Nationwide on-the-spot Poster Making Contest, with winning posters displayed near the stage to showcase diverse artistic styles and messages;- Lighting of Candles ceremony, symbolizing the commitment to ending hunger; and - Declaration of 2024 World Food Day Pledge, where participants from various Department of Agriculture (DA) bureaus and attached agencies, including PCAF, pledged their support for food security initiatives, sustainable agriculture, and addressing malnutrition.Other notable attendees included World Food Program Country Director Regis Chapman, Senator Cynthia Villar (Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Food and Agrarian Reform), and DA Undersecretary for Administration Allan Umali.This World Food Day Celebration reinforced the importance of collective action and international cooperation in achieving a hunger-free world.Visit pcaf.da.gov.ph for more stories.Text and photos by Jane Briña ...
